How to Put a Long Video on WhatsApp Status — Split Into Parts
WhatsApp status cuts videos short, so a three-minute clip of your nephew’s school performance becomes a 30-second teaser. The usual workaround — trimming it piece by piece in an editor — takes forever and often adds a watermark. VideoPlayer splits the whole thing into WhatsApp status-sized parts in one go and hands them to WhatsApp in order.
How to split a video for WhatsApp status
- In the library, long-press the video.
- Choose WhatsApp status.
- Drag the handles to choose the part of the video to post (up to 20 parts at a time).
- Pick 30 s parts or 60 s parts. The number of parts is shown next to it.
- Tap Make parts. A progress bar shows Part 3 of 6… as it works.
- Tap Send to WhatsApp. WhatsApp opens with every part attached, in order — choose My status.
If WhatsApp isn’t installed (or you use WhatsApp Business), the normal share sheet opens instead.
30 or 60 seconds?
WhatsApp has used a 30-second limit for status videos for years and has been rolling out longer limits to some users. If your WhatsApp accepts a full minute, choose 60 s parts — fewer pieces for your viewers to tap through. If not, 30 s always works.
Why the parts look good on status
- 720p H.264 — sharp on phone screens, small enough that WhatsApp doesn’t crush it with extra compression.
- Clean cuts with no gaps or repeated frames between parts, so viewers see one continuous video.
- No watermark, no logo, no “made with” text.
- Saved in Movies/VideoPlayer as well, named (status 1), (status 2)… in case you want to post them later or elsewhere.
Tips for better WhatsApp status videos
- Trim the boring start first — set the start handle on the first interesting moment.
- Vertical videos fill the status screen; wide videos get bars top and bottom.
- Need just one short moment? Use Cut a clip instead.
- Only the song? Save the audio with video to audio.
- Phone full afterwards? Free up space finds big videos you no longer need.
If the parts have no sound
A few films use DTS or E-AC3 sound that the phone can’t convert. VideoPlayer then saves the parts without sound and says so, instead of failing. Phone-camera videos, WhatsApp videos and most downloads use AAC and work normally.
Who can see your WhatsApp status parts
Every part follows your normal WhatsApp status privacy. In WhatsApp, open Settings → Privacy → Status to choose between My contacts, My contacts except… and Only share with…. Set this before you post a family function video so it reaches the people you mean it for.
Status updates disappear after 24 hours, but the parts stay saved in Movies/VideoPlayer, so you can post them again later or send them in a chat. Viewers see the parts one after another, just like any multi-video status.
If you only want close family to see a video, set up an Only share with… list once — WhatsApp remembers it for your next status.
WhatsApp’s own help pages explain how status works and current limits.
