Quick Actions: Put Your Favourite Player Tools One Tap Away
Everyone uses a player differently. One person changes speed in every lecture; another takes screenshots of every family video; someone else switches on Dialogue Boost for every film. VideoPlayer’s quick actions row under the video title lets you keep exactly your favourite tools one tap away — and hide the rest behind a single arrow.
How quick actions work
When the controls are showing, a row of round buttons sits under the title. By default it holds Equalizer, Speed, Screenshot, Background play and Rotate. At the end is an arrow: tap it to see every quick action with its name, in one scrollable row.
Buttons that are switched on — like Night mode or Loop — light up in teal, so you can see the state without opening anything.
How to customise quick actions
- Tap the arrow at the end of the quick row.
- Tap Customise (pencil icon).
- Tick the buttons you want in front — up to six. Untick the ones you don’t use.
Your choice is saved and used for every video.

Why not show everything?
A screen full of buttons covers the video and makes the important ones harder to find. Six pinned actions plus one arrow keep the top of the picture clean, while nothing is ever more than two taps away. The controls also fade out by themselves a few seconds after you stop touching the screen.
How your quick actions are saved
Your pinned quick actions are stored on the phone and apply to every video until you change them — films, songs and streams alike. Nothing is hidden by pinning: every tool you don’t pin stays one tap away under ⋮ More, in the same place as always.
A good habit is to review your quick actions after a week of use. If you never touched one, swap it for something you kept opening from the More menu — the bar should match how you really watch, not how you thought you would.
Families sharing one phone can agree on a common set of quick actions — for example Audio, Subtitles, Speed and Lock — so nobody has to hunt for a button someone else moved.
Google’s Material Design guidelines, which VideoPlayer follows, recommend keeping the most frequent actions visible and the rest one step away.
