Continue Watching: Pick Up Every Video Exactly Where You Left Off

By the VideoPlayer teamUpdated 3 min readहिंदी में पढ़ें

You stopped a film halfway last night, a lecture at 31 minutes, an episode just after the interval. Finding those spots again by dragging the seek bar is a chore. VideoPlayer remembers your place in every video and puts them in a Continue watching row at the top of the library — one tap and you’re back at the exact second.

Watch the 9-second demo: Continue watching

Where to find continue watching

  • Continue watching row at the top of the Folders tab: up to 12 recent videos, each with the frame where you stopped, a progress line and the time left.
  • Resume button — the round logo at the bottom right of the library: one tap continues the very last video you watched, from the same folder, so the next episode follows naturally.
  • Inside any folder, a teal line under the thumbnail shows how far you got; finished videos say Watched.

How resume works

Your position is saved every few seconds while you watch and whenever you pause or leave. When you open the video again, it jumps back to that point with a small message — Resumed at 48:12 — and a Start over button in case you want the beginning.

A video counts as finished in the last 15 seconds, so end credits don’t leave it stuck in Continue watching. Videos shorter than a few seconds of progress aren’t saved.

Tidy up continue watching

  • Tap the ✕ on a card, or long-press it, to remove it from the row.
  • To clear everything, open Settings → Data → Clear watch history.
  • Don’t want resuming at all? Switch off Resume where you left off in Settings → Playback.

NEW badges: what you haven’t watched yet

Videos added to your phone in the last 7 days that you haven’t opened show a red NEW tag, and each folder shows a red count of its new videos. Downloaded a season overnight? You can see at a glance which folder has new episodes and which ones you’ve started.

The library, organised by folder

The Folders tab lists every folder with videos — Camera, Downloads, WhatsApp Video, Telegram, Movies — with the number of videos and total size. The Videos tab lists everything in one place with a Favourites filter. Both support search and sorting by name, date, size or length.

Make binge-watching smooth

Continue watching works best with VideoPlayer’s other series features: Skip intro jumps past the theme song, and language memory starts each episode in your language. When you’ve finished a season, Free up space suggests the watched episodes to delete.

Your watch history stays on your phone

Continue watching works without an account or sign-in. Positions, the Watched marks and the NEW badges are stored only on your phone, never uploaded. If you share the phone with family, remember that everyone sees the same Continue watching row — remove a card with ✕, or clear the whole history from Settings → Data.

Android keeps your videos in a shared media library; VideoPlayer reads it with your permission, as described in the Android media storage guide.
